Intro

A large company with several lines of business was purchasing goods for their existing supply chain and for new projects. Part of the items they had already sourced and purchased in China on their own. For the rest, they had a general idea of what to buy — those had to be sourced from scratch by references.

They were not looking for the cheapest possible options, or for someone simply forwarding supplier messages. They needed the right items to fit their project requirements, and a China-based sourcing agent to work with long-term: source, contact and vet suppliers, manage the existing orders, arrange consolidation, and load and ship all the goods in one container. The general requirement was end-to-end sourcing and purchasing management in China, through to export. A “simple complex” task, as clients usually see it.

Outcome

Twenty-three suppliers stood behind one container: sixteen sourced and purchased on my side, covered by one consolidated invoice, and seven the client had purchased on their own — collected and consolidated with the rest of the cargo. The demanding item was the window glass: oversized panes, dedicated inland transport, and special forklift work at every step. One 40 ft HQ container was loaded and shipped, with the bill of lading issued to the client’s instruction.
